The Queensland Fire Department (QFD) provides fire prevention, preparedness and response services to fire in the built and landscape environments, as well as scientific and specialist capabilities to Queensland communities.
The QFD provides a multi-hazard emergency response, including road crash rescue, bushfire, hazardous material, technical and vertical rescue, severe weather incidents, remote and swiftwater rescue, and provides a number of functions supporting community safety outcomes.
Your Team
You will be joining the Fleet Operations team that leads fleet strategy and mechanical services and provides repairs and maintenance of fit for purpose heavy, light and medium commercial fleet vehicles and associated equipment to all members of QFD.
Through the full lifecycle management and best practice approach to the fleet and equipment management, you will ensure all assets and equipment are managed strategically and maintained to meet the complex environment in which they are deployed and utilised, and to meet operational capability and organisational objectives.
Your Role
As the regional Workshop Supervisor, you will program, conduct and manage the scheduled maintenance of QFD fire appliances, pumps, systems and associated equipment to ensure compliance with relevant legislative requirements.
Reporting to the State Manager (Mechanical Servies), you will also lead a team of equipment maintenance and repair specialists to ensure the fire appliances and associated equipment meet operational capability, including monitoring and managing parts inventories and listings and ordering to meet service delivery requirements.
Your responsibilities include but are not limited to:
* Schedule, coordinate and manage the day-to-day operations of the fleet maintenance workshop, ensuring provision of a safe work environment and activities compliant with Workplace Health and Safety requirements.
* Provide leadership, supervision and guidance to specialist technicians through all repair and maintenance activities to ensure compliance with heavy vehicle legislation, regulations and the Act.
* Maintain up to date maintenance and repair records, ensuring data is entered correctly and accurately into the electronic Fleet Maintenance System, including regular reporting of status and/or issues.
* Prepare and review reports, briefs, submissions and/or correspondence on fleet related matters in accordance with departmental requirements.
* Manage and conduct the service, diagnosis, repairs and/or maintenance of firefighting systems/pumping systems and other associated equipment to ensure they meet the manufacturer’s specifications.
* Undertake the ordering of parts and accessories as required by the workshop to meet maintenance and repair schedule requirements for fire appliances and associated equipment.
* Participate in ongoing manufacturer and in-house training to maintain competencies and operate in a team environment.
* Manage the ongoing development of staff through team leadership and performance management, and planning and review processes.
Key requirements
Highly desirable requirements
* Current Medium Rigid drivers' licence (or ability to attain prior to appointment).
* Trade certification qualifications as an Engineering Trades Person Level 1 (motor mechanic) Heavy Vehicle Stream
* Qualifications, skills and knowledge deemed equivalent and/or minimum of three years’ experience
* Experience in managing mechanical workshop and staff
* Ability in the service, repair and maintenance of heavy vehicles
Special requirements
* Provide an after-hours rostered on-call service for urgent maintenance/repairs of fire appliances/heavy vehicle and equipment.
