Base pay range
A$121,508.00/yr - A$137,032.00/yr

* Base Salary $121,508 - $137,032 + 17% superannuation
About the opportunity
As the Animal Welfare Veterinarian, you will ensure that the conduct of the University's animal research and teaching activities are compliant with National statutory instruments and State Legislation, and University guideline policies and procedures. You will play a key role in promoting animal welfare and will lead the implementation of strategic and operational priorities including the provision of training and policy development.
Your key responsibilities will be to:
* work within a dynamic team, reporting to the Director of Research Integrity & Ethics Administration
* proactively promote the responsible use of animals in research and teaching, and promote animal welfare across the university
* provide advice regarding research animal welfare to the Director, Research Integrity, and Ethics Administration and to other relevant University staff
* promote the ethics application pre-review process, to advise on research design, animal model selection, 3Rs consideration, animal welfare monitoring and researcher training needs
* provide support and advice to researchers and animal care personnel regarding the day-to-day operations of their research projects and the care and supervision of the animals involved in their research
* work with the Animal Ethics team on the development and implementation of new policies, processes and procedures for research animal welfare
* maintain up-to-date professional skills by attending forums and conferences pertinent to animal welfare and animal ethics.
About you
* hold a veterinary degree, with Australian state or territory registration recognised in NSW, and with practical experience and familiarity with animal research
* demonstrated knowledge of animal welfare issues, especially those relating to common laboratory species
* demonstrated high-level understanding and a working knowledge of the Australian code for the care and use of animals for scientific purposes and the policies and guidelines regarding animal welfare and ethics
* demonstrated ability to handle complaints and confidential matters in a sensitive and professional manner including exercise a very high level of tact and discretion
* excellent organisational and communication skills (both written and verbal)
* ability to establish and maintain excellent working relationships with internal and external stakeholders at all levels.
