The opportunity
This is a rewarding opportunity to provide primary healthcare in Mapoon, a small Aboriginal community on the western Cape York Peninsula. You'll be supported by a dedicated team of nurses and Aboriginal Health Practitioners, delivering culturally appropriate care in a community-focused environment.
The clinic operates Monday to Friday, 8:30am–5:00pm, using Best Practice software, with a minimum of 20 minutes per consultation. There are no after-hours, on-call or weekend requirements, ensuring a balanced and rewarding locum experience.

About the location
Mapoon is a coastal community of around 400 people, located north of Weipa on the Gulf of Carpentaria. Known for its pristine beaches, fishing, and cultural heritage, Mapoon offers a unique combination of natural beauty and close-knit community life.

How to get there
Fly into Cairns, then connect with a regional flight to Weipa Airport, followed by a short road transfer to Mapoon. Ochre Recruitment arranges all flights, ground transport and accommodation.
Essential criteria
* Fellowship with RACGP and/or ACRRM
* Current AHPRA Specialist GP Registration
* Australian Citizen or Permanent Resident
* Experience in rural or remote healthcare, ideally Indigenous health
* Cultural awareness and respect for Aboriginal communities
