About the role
A privately owned, multi division equipment and services business is looking for an Operational Financial Controller to step in and take ownership of the finance function.
This is a hands on role inside a real business. Not a corporate environment. Not a reporting only position.
You will work closely with operations, service, hire and sales to make sure the numbers reflect reality. You will clean up reporting, tighten controls, improve cashflow, and put proper structure around how the business tracks performance.
You will be expected to get stuck in, understand how the business actually runs, and drive meaningful change.
This is a role for someone who wants to be part of building something stronger and more efficient, not just maintaining what is already there.
Key responsibilities
• Full ownership of management accounting
• Monthly financial reporting and forecasting
• Cashflow and working capital management
• Margin analysis across departments and job types
• Stock, WIP and utilisation reporting
• Balance sheet integrity and reconciliations
• Simple, clear KPI reporting for management
• Identifying and reducing waste and inefficiency
• Improving finance processes and system discipline
• Supporting pricing, quoting and investment decisions
• Working closely with operational managers
• Guiding and strengthening a small accounts team
You will be doing the work. This is not a job where everything is delegated.
About you
You have worked in a true SME environment before.
You are comfortable stepping into missing or messy systems and getting control.
You understand operations, not just accounting theory.
You care about accuracy, cashflow and accountability.
You are practical, commercial, and not afraid of responsibility.
You likely have experience in at least one of the following:
• Equipment hire or machinery
• Industrial services or trade based businesses
• Manufacturing or logistics
• Construction or support services
CPA or CA preferred.
Strong hands on experience is essential.

A performance based bonus will be tied to real outcomes such as:
