Regional freight forwarding manager – southern corridor (east africa)

Globe 24-7, in partnership with a regional logistics and supply chain services group, is seeking an experienced and highly strategic Regional Freight Forwarding Manager to oversee and expand logistics operations across Tanzania, Malawi, Zambia, Katanga Province (DRC), Zanzibar, Rwanda, and Burundi. This role is based in East Africa.

Role overview

This position is responsible for developing and managing freight operations along the Southern Corridor, with a focus on expanding trade routes, optimizing multimodal logistics (rail, road, sea, and inland waterways), and strengthening market presence across East and Central Africa.

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in freight forwarding, pricing strategies, and vendor management across multiple transportation modes, including sea, air, rail, and land logistics. Beyond operational efficiency, this role requires a proactive leader who can identify new business opportunities, drive regional logistics expansion, and enhance supply chain strategies for sustainable growth.

Responsibilities

Pricing & Operations Management:

* Develop competitive pricing strategies for LCL, FCL, air, rail, land, and specialized cargo (including mining and oil & gas equipment).
* Maintain an accurate and up-to-date market rate database for informed decision-making.
* Lead negotiations with shipping lines, NVOCCs, carriers, and logistics providers to optimize costs and service levels.
* Oversee warehousing, bonded storage, cross-loading, and multimodal transport solutions to enhance supply chain efficiency.
* Ensure full compliance with international trade regulations, customs requirements, and KYC (Know Your Customer) protocols.
* Manage specialized logistics operations for oil and gas, mining, and heavy equipment transport, including rig moves, pipeline logistics, and bulk commodity handling.

Sales & Business Development:

* Identify and develop business opportunities within the Southern Corridor, particularly in the oil & gas and mining sectors.
* Represent the Group at key industry networking events (WCA, GLA, PPL Networks, oil & gas and mining expos, and trade forums).
* Build and maintain relationships with global freight agents, energy sector clients, and mining industry stakeholders to expand our service footprint.
* Support internal sales teams with market intelligence, pricing strategies, and quotation preparation.
* Conduct proactive outreach, client follow-ups, and sales prospecting to drive business growth.
* Collaborate with regional and global teams to strengthen operational networks and streamline processes.
* Provide end-to-end operational support, ensuring smooth execution from booking to final documentation.
* Deliver high-level customer service by ensuring efficient coordination of shipments and addressing escalations promptly.
* Establish and maintain strategic partnerships with vendors, carriers, and service providers, ensuring reliable service delivery.
* Ensure timely and accurate invoicing, financial reconciliation, and compliance with corporate governance policies.
Qualifications
* Bachelor's degree in Business, Logistics, Supply Chain, or a related field.
* 10+ years of experience in freight forwarding, logistics pricing, and corridor development.
* Strong expertise in multi-modal freight operations (sea, air, rail, and road), including pricing and vendor negotiations.
* Experience managing logistics for the oil & gas and mining sectors, including bulk cargo, heavy equipment, and hazardous materials transport.
* Established network within the freight forwarding and energy/mining logistics industries
* Excellent negotiation, analytical, and leadership skills with a results-driven approach.
* Outstanding communication, coordination, and problem-solving abilities.
* Experience across East and Southern Africa logistics operations.
* Understanding of asset-based logistics and the importance of owning transport assets for credibility in mining/oil & gas logistics.
