Risk and Governance Advisor, Net Zero Economy AuthorityJoin to apply for the Risk and Governance Advisor, Net Zero Economy Authority role at Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet.The Net Zero Economy Authority (the Authority) was established by the Net Zero Economy Act 2024 as a statutory agency. Its mission is to empower regions, workers, and communities most affected by Australia’s transition to a net zero emissions economy to anticipate and respond to the risks and opportunities of the transition.The authority is a new government agency in the Prime Minister’s Portfolio, led by an independent board and Chief Executive Officer. It is currently establishing itself, including off-boarding from the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet (PM&C). The transition to a separate entity is expected in 2025, at which point all employees will transfer under Machinery of Government (MoG) changes.The Corporate Strategy and Services Branch provides corporate and enabling services, including HR, finance, procurement, governance, risk, audit, legal, ICT, security, and records management. It aims to build the frameworks, systems, policies, and capabilities for the authority to operate independently.The branch comprises four sections:Human ResourcesBusiness Information and ServicesFinanceGovernanceWhat you’ll be doingThe Governance Team provides key services, including developing and maintaining governance frameworks under Commonwealth legislation, managing risk, audit, FOI, privacy, probity, and confidentiality. It also coordinates legal services procurement and corporate reporting, such as the Annual Report, Corporate Plans, and Emissions Reduction Plan.Reporting to an Assistant Director, the Risk and Governance Advisor will focus on integrity, information, and risk management frameworks, with particular emphasis on risk monitoring, FOI, and privacy matters.Key responsibilities include (but are not limited to):Administer the authority’s risk management framework and develop artefacts like enterprise risk registers and climate risk reports.Coordinate FOI matters to ensure legislative compliance.Support probity frameworks, including fraud and corruption control, confidentiality, and privacy.Coordinate legal services procurement by liaising with teams and providers.Provide high-quality advice and prepare complex briefings and reports for executives and the Board.Contribute to procedures development and staff training to ensure compliance.Develop operational procedures and materials for stakeholders.Support broader team/branch strategic outcomes as needed.Strong communication, planning, and organisational skills, along with a can-do attitude, will enable effective management and stakeholder collaboration.Why you’re the ideal candidateIn addition to APS 6 behaviour standards, ideal candidates will have:Experience handling FOI matters.Experience managing probity frameworks (fraud, corruption, confidentiality, privacy).Proven ability to provide high-quality advice and complex reports.Excellent verbal and written communication skills and stakeholder relationship-building ability.Strong prioritisation and task management skills, with attention to accuracy and quality.Good judgment, initiative, and a focus on continuous improvement.Flexibility arrangementsWe promote flexible work arrangements to suit individual circumstances and operational needs.
