Scientifica is a NATA-accredited laboratory specialising in environmental testing, contaminated land assessment and waste classification. With a strong foundation in ISO 17025 accredited chemical testing, the business is now expanding into asbestos identification and quantitation, creating an opportunity for a senior specialist to lead and build this capability.
This is not a BAU lab role. This is a chance to come in and establish a new service line, take ownership of methods, and play a key role in the growth of the laboratory.
The Role:
You will be responsible for setting up and leading Scientifica's asbestos identification and quantitation service, working closely with the Laboratory Technical Manager and Quality Manager.
This role will suit someone who wants autonomy, technical ownership, and the opportunity to build something from the ground up.
Key responsibilities include
* Establishing asbestos identification and quantitation services within the laboratory
* Method development, validation and supporting NATA accreditation processes
* Identification and analysis of asbestos in soils and ACM using PLM and associated techniques
* Quantitation of asbestos in soils in line with AS4964 and emerging standards such as AS5370
* Reviewing and verifying analytical results prior to reporting
* Supporting workflow management and maintaining delivery timeframes
* Mentoring junior staff and building capability across the teamMaintaining laboratory quality systems in line with ISO 17025
* Supporting continuous improvement across methods, technology and workflows
* Ensuring strict adherence to laboratory safety and asbestos handling protocols
About you:
* Degree qualified in science (chemistry or related discipline)
* 7–10 years' experience in asbestos identification within an accredited laboratory
* NATA signatory for asbestos identification and gravimetric quantitation
* Strong experience using PLM and associated identification techniques
* Solid understanding of AS4964 and exposure to AS5370
* Experience working within ISO 17025 quality frameworks
* High attention to detail with strong technical judgement
* Ability to work autonomously while supporting a broader team environment
