Find purpose and impact

Our new Coordinator Open Spaces you will be primarily responsible for coordinating the planning, maintenance and enhancement of Council's parks, gardens, streetscapes and urban forest. They would oversee horticultural operations, lead strategic open space planning, manage projects from design through to delivery, and ensure assets are maintained to agreed service levels. The position also involves guiding teams, collaborating with developers and contractors, and providing technical input into development and strategic planning processes.

You'll Make An Impact By

Leading the development and implementation of open space strategic plans, including master plans and urban forest initiatives.
Coordinating and overseeing the maintenance and presentation of parks, gardens, streetscapes and open space assets across Dubbo and Wellington.
Managing open space projects—such as playgrounds, parks and landscape upgrades from planning through to delivery, including budgets and contractor oversight.
Providing technical advice and assessing landscape and open space components of Development Applications to ensure compliance with Council standards.
Leading and coordinating multidisciplinary teams, ensuring effective communication and alignment between planning, programming and operational staff.

What You'll Bring

To thrive in this role, you will need:

Bachelor degree in Landscape Architecture, Horticulture, Parks and Recreation Management, Open Space Management, or related discipline or extensive demonstrated experience in recreation, open space or horticulture management in lieu of formal qualifications.
Extensive experience in parks and open space management, horticultural operations, or landscape planning including strategic planning and operational oversight at a senior coordination level with responsibility for multiple teams.
Highly developed communication, leadership and stakeholder engagement skills with demonstrated ability to engage effectively with diverse community groups, developers, contractors and internal teams.
Demonstrated ability and experience in leading multi-disciplinary teams in strategic planning, operational delivery, and asset management for open space and horticultural services.
Comprehensive experience in project management, budget management and contract administration for open space development and maintenance programs.
Demonstrated experience working with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders to achieve positive outcomes and deliver complex projects within planning and regulatory frameworks.
Knowledge of landscape design principles and experience with development assessment processes.

We Would Also Love You To Have

Experience in urban forestry management and arboriculture planning for local government environments.

This position offers an attractive annual salary ranging from $104,751 to $132,086 (pending qualifications). A leaseback vehicle is also available.
