About the Role
Zenith Energy is seeking a Financial Controller with strong accounting skills, a commitment to process improvement, and excellent interpersonal skills. The ideal candidate will be proficient in resolving complex accounting issues and will work closely with department heads to identify inefficiencies and implement changes effectively.
As Zenith experiences significant growth, backed by KKR and supported by a strong project pipeline, this role is integral to the Finance function.
Reporting to the GM of Finance and IT, the Financial Controller will lead a team of seven, overseeing financial accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll.
Key responsibilities will include
* Oversee month‐end and year‐end financial closings, ensuring accuracy and compliance with accounting standards.
* Prepare statutory accounts and assist external auditors during the annual audit.
* Support Board and management reporting, including variance analysis.
* Manage all tax obligations (GST, FBT, payroll tax) and coordinate with external advisors for compliance.
* Ensure adherence to regulatory requirements across all jurisdictions.
* Oversee accounts payable (AP) and accounts receivable (AR), ensuring timely and accurate payments.
* Drive improvements in AP and AR processes, including automation and purchasing discipline.
* Provide clear reporting on payables and cash flow.
* Ensure timely and accurate payroll processing, complying with relevant regulations.
* Lead payroll process improvements and maintain strong controls.
* Strengthen financial controls across all functions and implement efficiency improvements.
* Support technology enhancements for finance operations.
* Lead and develop the finance team, fostering a collaborative culture.
* Build strong relationships with other departments and engage with senior stakeholders.
About You
As theFinancial Controller, you will have the following experience, knowledge, and skills to bring to the role.
Experience, Skills, and Qualifications
* CA or CPA qualified with over 10 years of post‐qualification experience in financial accounting or controllership roles.
* Strong technical knowledge of accounting, including Australian Accounting Standards, tax compliance, and statutory reporting.
* Demonstrated experience in leading and developing finance teams across multiple functions.
* Proven track record of identifying and implementing process improvements that deliver measurable results.
* Excellent stakeholder management skills, able to build relationships, influence without authority, and communicate financial information clearly to non‐finance audiences.
* Experience with ERP systems; familiarity with Pronto or similar mid‐market ERP solutions is an advantage.
* High attention to detail, with the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast‐paced, growth‐oriented environment.
* Experience in the energy, resources, or infrastructure sector.
* Exposure to PE‐backed or high‐growth business environments.
* Experience supporting or leading finance system implementations or automation projects.
* Familiarity with payroll legislation and award interpretation in a multi‐site environment.
