About the Branch

The ACCU Scheme (Vegetation), Nature Repair and Analytics branch supports the administration of projects that sequester carbon through the restoration, regeneration and protection of native forest and activities in the plantation forest sector under the Australian Carbon Credit Units (ACCU) Scheme.

The branch also manages the Nature Repair Market - a voluntary national initiative which opened in March 2025 that enables people to take action to restore and protect the environment.

In addition, the branch also undertakes a broad range of activities aimed at improving engagement, participation and effective administration of both the ACCU Scheme and Nature Repair Market, ensuring the integrity of these schemes.

About the Sections

Plantings and Plantations section and Land and Forest section: These sections administer elements of the Carbon Credits (Carbon Farming Initiative) Act 2011 and associated legislative instruments supporting the delivery of carbon abatement through vegetation projects.

* The Plantings and Plantations section administer methods relating to the establishment of environmental plantings and establishment and management plantation forestry.
* The Land and Forest section administer methods relating to the regeneration and protection of native forest.

Both sections are responsible for assessing applications and ensuring compliance with scheme requirements through communication and outreach and detecting and responding to non-compliance. The sections provide subject matter expertise and knowledge-transfer for all vegetation methods under the ACCU Scheme to internal and external stakeholders.

We value continuous improvement through regular review and critical analysis of assessment tools, processes and forms. The teams proactively develop guidance and engage with scheme participants to streamline application processes and resolve issues.

Geospatial Analytics and Reporting: The Geospatial Analytics and Reporting section is responsible for delivery and enhancement of capabilities that improve engagement, participation and administration of the ACCU and NRM Schemes.

The Geospatial Analytics and Reporting section supports data and geospatial analysis capabilities that deliver reporting and analytical services to support compliance monitoring, scheme assurance and internal and external reporting.

The section also contributes to the development of delivery of agency-wide systems and frameworks supporting the administration of our schemes, and works with government and non-government partners on initiatives supporting the carbon farming and nature repair industry.

Scheme Implementation and Insights: The Scheme Implementation and Insights section supports the design and delivery of high-value projects to address the strategic and operational priorities of the ACCU Scheme, through collaborative and agile working arrangements with key personnel. The section work collaboratively with ACCU Scheme senior executives to define business priorities, design implementation strategies, track progress and manage change.
