Substation P&C Designer
Job Summary
POWER Engineers is seeking a Substation Protection & Control (P&C) Designer for the Power Delivery Substation Department in Augusta, Maine. The role offers a hybrid work environment, requiring candidates to live within commuting distance of Hallowell.
Roles and Responsibilities
1. Collaborate within a team to complete complex electrical utility substation designs, ensuring compliance with client standards.
2. Perform detailed P&C design for medium to extra high voltage substations, including:
3. One-line diagrams
4. P&C equipment selection
5. Protection and control schematics
6. Wiring diagrams
7. SCADA and communications systems
8. Material lists
9. Conduit and cable routing and sizing
10. AC/DC system calculations
11. Preparation of engineering documentation such as RFIs, scope documents, equipment specifications, and construction specs
* Coordinate with engineers to develop drawing packages and with other disciplines like structural and civil teams
* Participate in quality assurance and quality control processes
* Assist in project scheduling and budget management
Required Education/Experience
* Associate's degree or equivalent technical education
* Proficiency with AutoCAD or MicroStation (preferred to have both)
* Knowledge of protection and control design
* Strong electrical reasoning, attention to detail, and communication skills
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Outlook, Excel, and Word
* Legal authorization to work permanently in the U.S. without sponsorship
Desired Education/Experience
* 3+ years of utility substation design experience (preferred)
* Familiarity with Raster Design or Bentley Descartes
* Ability to develop drawings from sketches, notes, vendor drawings, etc.
* Material selection based on technical requirements
