Role summary
An exciting opportunity has become available in their Melbourne inner-city headquarters to join their expanding global legal team. You will report to the Legal & Finance Director (a lawyer with more than 10 years at the company) and join a well-established function locally and globally. Your role is to provide pragmatic commercial legal advice, mitigate risk, and support Australian compliance obligations. You will liaise with key stakeholders including the CEO, global legal and compliance teams, research and sales teams, and Directors of General Medicine and Oncology.
Responsibilities
* Legal (approx. 50% of work): Drafting and negotiation of a broad range of commercial agreements (clinical trial agreements, IT agreements including software licenses, supply agreements and service agreements); provide privacy advice including GDPR and coordinate with the global legal team for local compliance; ad hoc daily legal advice on a commercial basis including IP and contractual issues; liaising with external legal regarding competition and trademark/patent matters; attend monthly meetings with global legal and compliance teams.
* Compliance (approx. 50% of work): Implementing and managing the company's compliance framework including global policies and procedures; ensuring adherence to local industry codes when engaging with public, patients and doctors; liaising with the medical team to provide prompt compliance advice for the Australian business; delivering training to staff on privacy laws, ethics, third-party due diligence and whistleblowing.
About you
To be successful: ideally 5+ years' PQE in commercial law, including drafting a wide range of commercial agreements; some exposure to IP law; in-house experience is ideal but not essential; strong negotiation skills and ability to lead negotiations; ability to explain business risks in lay terms; commercially minded; strong written and verbal communication; confidence.
