About the Role
Monash is Victoria's largest healthcare provider, delivering care to one‐quarter of Melbourne's population across the entire lifespan. We are accredited for all aspects of FACEM training and offer one of Victoria's most comprehensive Emergency Medicine training programmes. We are looking for doctors undertaking vocational specialist training to join our busy and dynamic Emergency Registrar programme, supporting the next stage of their careers.
Eligibility – 2027
Monash Health Emergency Registrar positions are designated vocational training roles. Successful applicants will be expected to be enrolled in, or commencing, a recognised specialist training program by the commencement of employment in 2027. This may include Emergency Medicine (ACEM) or other relevant specialist pathways where Emergency Medicine training forms part of vocational requirements (e.g. RACGP, RACP, ICU, Anaesthetics or other approved training programmes).
Experience & Rotations
- Paediatric Emergency Department – new department with state‐of‐the‐art Monash Children's Hospital, PICU and NICU
- Victorian Heart Hospital (VHH) – work a term in the ED of Australia's only specialist cardiac hospital
- Experience the new department at MMC, a vibrant and dynamic tertiary department with cutting‐edge stroke service, cardiac, renal transplant, neurosurgery and more
- Dandenong ED – established suburban department, home of our Trauma and Toxicology services as well as a busy ICU and surgical services
- A new Emergency Department build is underway at Casey Hospital, a fully supported suburban centre with ICU, Paediatrics, Obstetrics and Surgical services
- Accredited rotations in Paediatric ED and VHH ED
- Toxicology – Monash clinical referral and research unit, giving registrars an edge on the world of Toxicology
- Simulation Centre Registrar – build skills for teaching and quality improvement in this role
- Anaesthetic and ICU placements across three Monash sites
- General Medicine, Paediatric Registrar, Psychiatry, Eye and Ear Hospital ED, HITH and other non‐ED terms accredited for FACEM Training
- Senior Registrar non‐clinical portfolios available in Ultrasound, Teaching, Research and Simulation
Education & Training Programme
- A structured preparation programme for each of the ACEM exams, supported by our educators and examiners.
- Point of Care Ultrasound Training through Monash POCUS – free courses and unlimited 1:1 training for eFAST, Cardiac, DVT, renal and more.
- Research opportunities through our Monash Emergency Research Collaboration.

About You
To ensure your success in this role you will bring the following demonstrated skills, experience and knowledge:
- Clinical Expertise – Ability to define and manage complex clinical problems in critically ill patients.
- Communication – Effective communication skills, empathy and trust with patients and their families.
- Autonomy – Demonstrate clinical autonomy under the guidance of supervising Emergency consultants, with the level of autonomy adjusting based on the trainee's capabilities.
Mandatory Requirements
- Primary medical degree (MBBS) or equivalent
- Australian working rights
- Registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) – Employee Working with Children's Check
- Current Driver's Licence
