About the role We have an exciting opportunity for a multiskilled Scientific Officer to join our high-performing team in a multidisciplinary laboratory located in Coffs Harbour. The Scientific Officer will possess expertise across various disciplines including Blood Banking, Haematology, Coagulation, and Biochemistry. As the Scientific Officer, you will be part of a passionate, vibrant, and engaged team responsible for: Communicating effectively with patients, clinical, and laboratory staff. Having recent experience in Haematology, Haemostasis, Transfusion medicine, and Biochemistry. Validating results and providing comprehensive reports to assist with client or clinical decisions in a timely manner. Demonstrating a well-rounded understanding of Quality control and Quality Management across departments, with knowledge of NATA requirements and ISO 15189. Performing regular maintenance and basic troubleshooting on instrumentation, equipment, and manual techniques, maintaining accurate records. Participating in regular training and ongoing departmental competency programs, including external quality assurance initiatives. Adopting a customer-focused approach with strong interpersonal skills, effective communication, report writing, and statistical evaluation of scientific data. Collaborating with the Laboratory Manager and Chief Scientists. About you To be considered for this position, you will need to meet the following essential requirements: Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Applied Science (Medical Laboratory Science), or an equivalent qualification. Previous experience in a multidisciplinary clinical laboratory. Recent experience in Haematology, Haemostasis, Transfusion medicine, and Biochemistry. A willingness to adhere to departmental and organizational policies and procedures. Self-initiative and problem-solving skills. Demonstrating integrity and professionalism in all tasks. Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy. Additional vaccination history and evidence may be required for department-specific vaccine-preventable diseases.
