Overview
The Health Data Engineer is responsible for expanding and maintaining Preventive Health SA's (PHSA) new data analytics infrastructure to support the agency's preventive health planning.
In addition, the role involves, but is not limited to:
* Managing large health data sets from various internal and external sources.
* Creating a modern and reliable automated data engineering workflow.
* Establishing both a data lake and a data warehouse for continuous epidemiological analysis.
Collaborating with PHSA staff and a diverse group of stakeholders, including universities, researchers, and government, non-government, and community organisations, to design high-level data architectures for data stored within the Epidemiology and Research Division.

Appointment Requirements
Appointment will be subject to a satisfactory Criminal History Check and appropriate immunisation requirements.
Criminal History Screening Requirement
* A 'National Police Certificate' NPC (also known as a 'Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check' NCCHC) for employment involving no contact with vulnerable groups is required for this position (general employment).
Immunisation Risk
Immunisation Risk for this position is Category C (minimal patient contact). SA Health Services are required to implement the Addressing vaccine preventable disease: Occupational assessment, screening and vaccination policy in the workplace.
Special Conditions (Qualifications)
* Bachelor degree in Health Informatics, Computer Science, Data Science, or a related field.
* Proven knowledge of quantitative research methods, data collection and management, and statistical analysis techniques.
* Ability to engineer and wrangle data in a modern data analytics platform environment, using applications such as Snowflake, Azure Data Factory/Bricks and Denodo.
* Experience in data visualisation and building dashboards using applications such as Power BI or Qlik.
* Proven experience in health data analysis and using tools such as SQL, R, and Python.
