About the opportunity
The role of the Work, Health and Safety Officer is to maintain the NSW SES safety management system, implement strategies, policies and operating procedures that support prevention of incidents in accordance with relevant legislation.

About you
To be successful in this role you will:
* be proficient in accurate record keeping, and in analysing and reporting WHS performance metrics;
* have experience managing and coordinating investigations into incidents, near misses and unsafe conditions, including hazard identification and implementation of effective risk control measures;
* have proven experience in maintaining safety management systems, and implementing strategies, policies and procedures that support NSW SES in providing a safe and compliant workplace;
* demonstrate strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to engage and consult with key stakeholders including Health and Safety Representatives (HSRs) to translate WHS performance data into actionable insights, ensure consultation requirements are met, and drive continuous improvement;
* be capable of developing safety strategies and tools, conducting WHS system audits, reviewing outcomes, addressing non compliance, and producing relevant guidance materials.

Targeted questions:
* You have been asked to review a high risk activity taking place during a training exercise to ensure it aligns with the NSW SES Safety Management System. Describe how you would approach conducting a risk assessment for this activity. In your response, outline how you would identify key hazards, assess the level of risk, and recommend appropriate control measures that support continuous improvement of WHS practices.
* A member experiences a significant near miss while using equipment at a Unit. As the WHS Officer, describe how you would approach conducting the investigation. In your response, explain how you would engage or consult with stakeholders who may hold differing or challenging views, and outline how you would build relationships to gain support for the corrective and preventive actions identified through the investigation.
