Our Conservation Programs, Heritage and Regulation Group is currently seeking to appoint a Senior Manager Flood Program to lead the delivery of the Urban Flood Risk Management Program across NSW. This role sits within the Marine, Coast, Estuary and Flood Branch and is responsible for overseeing operational policy, providing technical support, and coordinating regional flood program delivery.
You'll manage a team of 8-10 members providing strategic oversight and policy advice on the NSW Urban Flood Program to ensure a consistent, state-wide approach to floodplain management. The role involves working closely with the Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure, Reconstruction Authority, emergency services and local government to support flood risk reduction and build community resilience. You'll be part of a collaborative; multidisciplinary team focused on delivering practical solutions and continuous improvement in flood program outcomes.
About You
You bring deep experience in floodplain management or other flood-related programs, with a solid understanding of how government policy and operational delivery intersect. You've led multidisciplinary teams and worked across regional and state contexts, providing technical guidance and strategic direction to support flood risk reduction. Your ability to interpret complex data, develop practical solutions, and manage program delivery makes you a trusted advisor to both internal teams and external stakeholders.
You're a collaborative leader who builds strong relationships with councils, emergency services, and other government agencies. You communicate clearly, manage competing priorities, and bring a calm, solutions-focused approach to complex challenges. You're comfortable navigating budgets and performance targets, and you're committed to delivering programs that improve community resilience and environmental outcomes.
You will exhibit demonstrated experience in mentoring and training team members, along with the ability to influence and negotiate with internal and external stakeholders.
Essential Requirements
* Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline and/or equivalent experience
* Current NSW driver's licence and ability and willingness to travel throughout the state when required
* Technical knowledge of flood risk management
* Demonstrated experience coordinating and delivering regional delivery programs
* Strong people management and communication skills
