About the Role
Looking for your next leadership opportunity?
We need a hands‑on leader to keep our resource recovery waste facility operations running smoothly and on budget.
In this role, you’ll be leading and coordinating a large team of landfill roles which includes Disposal Support and Plant Operators, Gatehouse Operators and Transfer Station Operators at our Stuart Landfill site. This role will ensure the delivery of excellent customer service to the community of Townsville by leading an effective and efficient landfill service.
This will include, but not be limited to, service planning, resource allocation, time management, budget management, safety and environmental compliance, recruitment, performance management and managing difficult behaviours. Strong people skills are a must. You’ll be resolving issues, negotiating outcomes, and motivating your team to deliver great results.
You’ll also keep an eye on KPIs and budgets, make sure jobs get done safely aiming to stay within required targets, and help shape the future direction of the business unit.
About You
Our ideal candidate will have:
- Qualifications in, Engineering, Environmental Science and/or significant industry experience.
- Supervisory experience and/or qualifications in the waste management, resource recovery or related industry.
- Experience in coordinating staff and resources to ensure tasks are completed.
- Ability to lead a large team of operators in remote operational environments and experience managing all aspects of team performance.
- Experience with business management systems required to operate a commercialized waste business unit e.g., Propeller/Trimble mapping systems and software, financial management and budgeting tools, customer service systems.
- Extensive knowledge of the waste industry.
- Extensive knowledge of waste disposal practices used in the industry and the ability to operate in a fast‑paced environment.
- Solid written and verbal communication skills and the ability to influence positive change.
- Strong problem‑solving abilities.
- Comprehensive knowledge of statutory requirements relevant to the waste industry.
