Nyamal Aboriginal Corporation (NAC) represents the Nyamal people and oversees the governance and administration of Native Title agreements and related obligations on their behalf. The organisation plays a key role in ensuring that Native Title rights and interests are properly upheld, while supporting the community's long-term cultural, social and economic development.
NAC is currently conducting an operational review and organisational strengthening process, supported by the Nyamal People's Trust. This work includes ensuring the corporation has appropriate governance structures, compliance systems and specialist capability to manage its obligations effectively.
The Position:
Reporting to the NAC Board of Directors, the Governance and Native Title Manager is responsible for implementing and managing NAC's governance and Native Title compliance systems, records and reporting frameworks. Key responsibilities include:
* Preparing Board agendas, papers and facilitating Board meetings, including minute taking, drafting of minutes and resolution management.
* Maintaining all Board and governance records, including the Members Register, Minutes and Resolution Registers.
* Managing compliance with the Corporations (Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander) Act 2006 (CATSI Act).
* Collaborating with the Board, external lawyers and consultants to manage Native Title agreements and negotiations.
* Developing and implementing processes for the effective management of Native Title and heritage agreements and governance compliance.
* Overseeing heritage and environmental approvals processes in conjunction with internal teams.
* Establishing and maintaining Native Title agreement record-keeping and document control systems.
* Supporting compliance and reporting for external funding agreements.
About You:
You must have at least 3 years' experience in native title compliance, agreement management, or a related governance role, with exposure to heritage and future acts processes. Experience within a Prescribed Body Corporate (PBC) or Aboriginal Land Council is not mandatory; however, candidates from legal practice, government, or the private sector with relevant native title or compliance experience are encouraged to apply. A legal background or formal law qualifications will be highly regarded.
You will also bring:
* Strong understanding of governance and compliance requirements under the CATSI Act or similar legislation.
* Experience in stakeholder engagement across government, legal and community entities.
* Well-developed organisational skills with the ability to manage competing deadlines across complex compliance calendars.
* A culturally respectful approach and genuine understanding of the dynamics of Aboriginal community governance.
* The ability to handle sensitive Board and legal matters with discretion and sound judgement.
* The capacity to operate with a degree of autonomy and work proactively without close oversight.
