Rural Emergency Physician
Part time - 32 hours per week
£118,164 - £141,848 per annum pro rata
Looking for ED consultants and GPs to complete our friendly and innovative team of Rural Emergency Physicians. We offer a unique opportunity to work in a small acute community hospital on the Isle of Skye with a high quality of life, beaches, mountains and opportunities for work/life balance.
You will be based at Broadford Hospital, Broadford on the Isle of Skye, eight miles from the Skye Bridge. You will see, assess and treat a wide variety of patients from across Skye, Lochalsh and South West Ross, including a large number of seasonal tourists. You will also manage the 19 in-patients with the ward nursing team and participate in weekly fracture and minor surgery clinics. Support from Advance Nurse Practitioners is provided. Nearest DGH support is available from Inverness by phone or Video Conference.
Work will be a mixture of ED and ward-based duties. ED shifts are 12.5 hours (day or night). A ward doctor week (Mon-Fri) is included to ensure continuity of care. You should be on the Specialist Register for General Practice or Emergency Medicine. Prior experience in anaesthetics, minor surgery, fracture management and inpatient care is advantageous; training will be provided via attachments to Raigmore Hospital, Inverness, and other hospitals as required.
Responsibilities Provide a mix of ED and ward-based care for patients across Skye, Lochalsh and South West Ross, including trauma and major/minor emergencies.
Assess and treat a wide range of conditions; work with Advance Nurse Practitioners for patient care.
Contribute to weekly fracture and minor surgery clinics; participate in resuscitation and evacuation activities.
Support the birthing unit and nurse-led chemo/infusion and dialysis units as required.
