The office of Ted O'Brien MP is seeking applications for a full-time ongoing Media, Communications and Events Manager, based in the Member's Electorate Office in Maroochydore, QLD.

Position Overview

The Media, Communications and Events Manager is a key member of the electorate office team, responsible for delivering clear, engaging, and strategic communications between the Member and the local community. This role manages the Member's public-facing presence across social media, newsletters, printed materials, and local media, ensuring community-facing opportunities are consistently and effectively promoted. Working closely with the Member and staff, the Media, Communications and Events Manager contributes to briefing reports, builds a database of electorate insights, and supports constituent enquiries with professionalism and care. The position requires strong communication skills, creativity, and a deep understanding of the local media landscape.

This is a fast-paced and outward-facing role that demands initiative, sound judgment, and a genuine commitment to public service. The successful candidate will be proactive in identifying opportunities to amplify the Member's work, while developing expertise on community issues and maintaining respectful relationships with stakeholders. They will contribute to a safe, inclusive workplace culture and support the broader operations of the electorate office as needed. Ultimately, the Media, Communications and Events Manager plays a vital role in ensuring the Member's work and social media brand is visible, accessible, and deeply connected to the community they represent.

The key duties of the position include but are not limited to:

* Manage the end-to-end delivery of the Member's communications to the electorate including content creation, social media presence, distributing digital newsletters, creating printed collateral and developing close relationships with local media.
* Strong emphasis on social media, identifying opportunities and channels for reaching key audiences in new and innovative ways.
* Proactively identify and create mainstream and social media opportunities and respond to local media queries.
* Organise local community events, shopping stalls, town hall meetings, community barbeques, and other public forums.
* Work with Campaign and Constituent Manager to plan and manage seasonal road trips and associated activities.
* Manage stalls and market day events, including the Sunshine Coast Agricultural Show.
* Ensuring mail-outs of invitations occur in a timely manner, occasionally representing the Member at these events.
* Ensure all community facing opportunities for the Member are highlighted across digital platforms and local media.
* Contribute to briefing reports for the Member on marketing, social media and digital strategies and building a database of Electoral insights.
* Contribute to constituent enquiries (in-person, phone and email), researching solutions and liaising with Government agencies and stakeholders as needed, to ensure matters are resolved in a timely and effective manner.
* Action constituent and/or stakeholder queries, as required.
* Work with the appropriate government departments or other offices to ensure constituent matters are solved in a timely manner.
* Support and maintain a safe, respectful and inclusive workplace culture.
* Other duties as required to support the Member and the effective operation of the Electorate Office.

The ideal applicant should possess the following skills, qualifications, and experience:

* Demonstrated experience in the design and management of digital platforms and a proven track record in effectively executing communications strategies and developing strong working relationships with local media and other key stakeholders.
* Strong social media skills across multiple platforms and familiarity with latest tools to enhance communication with target audiences.
* Event management experience.
* Experience with digital marketing platforms such as MailChimp, Canva and Adobe programs is highly desirable.
* Excellent communication skills and the ability to accurately track, follow-up and follow through with media and community enquiries.
* Ability to work as part of a team, under time constraints and strict deadlines with minimum supervision.
* High levels of professionalism, confidentiality and discretion.
* Prior political experience is preferred but not essential, however an interest in and understanding of the local political environment is required.
* A respectful demeanour when engaging with office staff and constituents.

Employment conditions:

The position is offered under the Members of Parliament (Staff) Act 1984 and conditions are outlined in the Commonwealth Members of Parliament Staff Enterprise Agreement which include:

* A commencing salary between $76,910 and $89,793 will be negotiated depending on experience and relevant skills.
* An additional optional allowance may be considered in recognition of, and as compensation for, reasonable additional hours of work and any travel requirements.
* Relocation assistance, studies assistance and paid study leave may also be available (subject to eligibility requirements).
* An employer superannuation contribution of 15.4% will be payable.

* An initial probationary period of three months will apply and may be subject to extension.
* The successful applicant may be required to undergo a National Police History Check.
* Staff may be subject to automatic cessation triggers in accordance with Section 14 of the MOP(S) Act.
* The successful applicant will be required to comply with their obligations under the Behaviour Codes and Standards.
