The Department of Health is seeking applications to fill the key positions of Director (Training Program Director) and Deputy Director of Physician Training. The director and deputy director will be part of a small team comprising a physician training director, a deputy director, and administrative support. Both positions may be shared by two appointees by mutual agreement and are 3‐year, part‐time appointments.
Responsibilities
* Lead the design, implementation, and evaluation of the Royal Australian College of Physicians (RACP) Training Program to meet accreditation standards.
* Oversee teaching activities and ensure trainees are prepared for written and clinical examinations.
* Provide pastoral support, mentorship, and supervision to trainee physicians.
* Engage with the RACP community at Royal Hobart Hospital to foster collaboration and quality improvement.
* Conduct reviews, audits, and reporting to support continuous improvement of the training program.
Qualifications
* Registered general medical practitioner with specialist registration or an international medical graduate on a specialist pathway.
* Completion of the mandatory RACP supervisor courses.
* Detailed knowledge of RACP training requirements.
* Strong organisational, communication, and leadership skills.
* Interest in medical education and demonstrated teaching experience.
* Willingness to provide pastoral care to trainees.
Director Requirements
* Five years RACP Fellowship.
* Three years experience supervising medical trainees as an educational supervisor in RACP Basic Training or equivalent.
Deputy Director Requirements
* RACP Fellowship.
* Experience supervising medical trainees as an educational supervisor in RACP Basic Training or equivalent.
Essential Requirements
* Holds specialist registration, or
* Is a registered medical practitioner who is an international medical graduate on the specialist pathway, or
* Is a registered medical practitioner who has a recognised overseas specialist qualification and is assessed as having sufficient experience in the speciality.
* Current Tasmanian Working with Children Registration where applicable.
Appointment Details
* Director: Fixed‐term, part‐time day work, 15.2 hours per fortnight, commencing 26 May 2026 for 3 years.
* Deputy Director: Fixed‐term, part‐time day work, 15.2 hours per fortnight, commencing 18 August 2026 for 3 years.
Salary and Benefits
* Base salary comprises the Agreement base salary, relevant allowances, and other entitlements negotiated with the successful applicant.
* Salary points for Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1: $216,300 – Level 11: $296,640, with further increments available.
* Additional allowances include motor vehicle allowance, continuing professional development allowance, and on‐call allowance as per the current Award.
* Salary package benefits: living expenses up to $9,010, meal entertainment up to $2,650 per FBT year, fitness passport access, and Carer Accredited Employer Status support.
