ASD 5 & 6 Cyber Security Engineers & Specialists
Australian Signals Directorate pay range:
A$92,******/yr - A$116,******/yr
About the Role
The Australian Signals Directorate is looking for highly motivated technical specialists to fill ASD5 and ASD6 Cyber Security Engineer & Specialist positions within the Australian Cyber Security Centre's (ACSC) Cyber Security Resilience Division.
As a Cyber Security Specialist you will undertake challenging work that contributes to maintaining Australia's national security, protecting critical assets and information.
You will apply your technical knowledge to assess and improve the security of a wide range of systems and provide advice on technical matters.
Government Uplift
Use red team techniques to assess technical systems and advise government entities on security posture.
Use blue team knowledge to provide effective defensive recommendations.
Use custom and open-source tools to perform assessments.
Build and improve tools using software engineering skills.
Collaborate and discuss security recommendations with stakeholders.
Critical Infrastructure & Operational Technology Environments
Use red team techniques to assess critical infrastructure systems and advise on security posture.
Use blue team techniques to provide defensive recommendations.
Use custom and open-source tools for assessments.
Build and improve tools with software engineering skills.
Collaborate and discuss recommendations with stakeholders.
Present technical findings, supported by senior staff, in writing and verbally.
Secure Design and Architecture
Advise on systems security architecture.
Develop scalable architectural patterns and advice for customers.
Build and deliver threat modelling advice and workshops.
Collaborate and discuss cybersecurity recommendations with stakeholders.
Microsoft 365 Cloud Engineer
Design, deploy and verify secure Microsoft cloud and hybrid solutions.
Draft, review and contribute to written technical advice and/or publications.
Work collaboratively with stakeholders, including internal teams and external partners.
About the Team
ASD is a vital member of Australia's national intelligence community, and its Australian Cyber Security Centre (ACSC) provides technical advice across the Australian economy.
The Cyber Uplift Branch enhances cyber security resilience and capability across government services and critical infrastructure through strategy, advice, and proactive planning.
Our Ideal Candidate
Strong integrity, agility, curiosity, imagination, resilience, and creativity.
At least one year of experience in cyber security or a related field, or commensurate training.
Analytical and problem-solving skills.
Ability to develop and maintain relationships with stakeholders of varying backgrounds.
Understanding of Australian Government cyber security policies, standards, and guidelines.
Effective communication of technical concepts, both written and verbal.
Ability to take direction and work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team.
Willingness to learn new skills and technologies.
