The Role

The Justice Support Worker provides culturally responsive support, advocacy, and practical assistance to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community Members who are either at risk of, or currently engaged with, the justice system. The role is dedicated to promoting equitable outcomes, dismantling systemic barriers, and fostering independence and self-determination. It aims to empower Aboriginal people to live strong, respectful, independent, and healthy lives, while also contributing to long-term strategies that address the overrepresentation of Aboriginal people in the justice system.

About You

* Only Aboriginal and Torres Only Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander persons are eligible to apply for this role. This is a special measures role and only Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples are eligible to apply, under the special measures provision, section 12(1) of the Equal Opportunity Act 2010 (Vic).
* A relevant tertiary qualification in Social Work, Psychology, Early Childhood Specialist and/or related behavioural sciences at degree level with substantial experience; or associate diploma level with substantial experience in the relevant service stream, or less formal qualifications with specialised skills sufficient to perform at this level.
* Knowledge of and affinity with the Aboriginal community.
* Ability to effectively support and advocate on behalf of Aboriginal people and their families
* Knowledge of and ability to effectively liaise with youth and adult services
* Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to develop positive stakeholder relationships and communicate with diverse individuals in a culturally appropriate manner
* Ability to demonstrate resilience and work in challenging and high-pressure environments
* Strong written communication skills including high level of accuracy, record keeping, and report writing abilities
* Ability to work effectively and cooperatively as part of a team and follow processes
* Knowledge of safe and appropriate culturally centred practices for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander focused services, including employment of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people
* Demonstrated understanding of social, physical, economical, and cultural strengths and challenges affecting Aboriginal communities and their ability to access adequate and quality services.
* Understanding of the purpose and expectations of the Victorian Child Safe Standards and demonstrated commitment to contributing to a child safe organization in both practice and culture.

Desirable

Demonstrated experience working with Aboriginal Community Controlled Organization's.

*A police check, Working with Children Check, Vaccination Certificate and current Driver License are required for all positions.
