The ACT Supreme Court is a superior court of record enjoying civil, criminal and appellate jurisdiction.
An appeal lies to the Supreme Court from the ACT Magistrates Court, the Childrens Court, and the ACT Civil and Administrative Tribunal.
The Supreme Court exercises jurisdiction in corporate law, adoptions, probate and other matters including admiralty.
Job Description
The Attorney‐General of the Australian Capital Territory, Ms Tara Cheyne MLA, invites expressions of interest from eligible and suitably qualified people for appointment as a Resident Judge to the Supreme Court of the Australian Capital Territory.
The eligibility, conditions and terms of appointment for a Resident Judge are set out in the Supreme Court Act 1933. The selection criteria for a Resident Judge are set out in the Supreme Court (Resident Judges Appointment Requirements) Determination 2026 (No 1), which can be found on the ACT Legislation Register at www.legislation.gov.au.
