We are seeking a Picture desk producer and illustrator who will support the picture desk to produce creative content for visual story-telling for news, features and other content, including the creation of illustrations.
This role is being offered on a full-time permanent basis (with some early starts and late finishes).
**In this role you will.**
- Cultivate creative ideas for illustrating the site front, news stories, features picture galleries and live blogs.
- Create illustrations for stories in consultation with picture desk editor and section editors.
- Produce galleries, audio slideshows and photo essays.
- Edit images in preparation for publishing.
- Generate creative ideas for major projects including supporting with design assets.
- Create social assets and support our audience editor and audio visual team in order to maximise social media engagement.
- Adhere to the creative direction of the Guardian Australia newsdesk and head of photography (UK) to source images that enhance the site.
**You'll bring.**
**Knowledge and experience**
- Understanding of picture agencies and archives.
- Demonstrable experience in and portfolio of creating illustrations, preferably for a digital news outlet.
- Experience working on, or willingness to learn the skills to work on a national news picture desk.
- Design experience is desirable.
- Experience of commissioning photojournalists is an advantage.
- Experience of using the Adobe suite (photoshop and illustrator).
- Extensive post-production skills eg composites, deep etching, colour and exposure correction.
- Knowledge of media law.
