Overview
Suburban Connect is a consortium of global leaders in tunnelling including CPB Contractors, Ghella and Acciona Construction delivering the Tunnels South package on Suburban Rail Loop (SRL) East, on behalf of Suburban Rail Loop Authority (SRLA).
We have a broad range of roles available to build our diverse and inclusive workforce, including construction and engineering, planning and environmental management, corporate support, administration, communications and many others.
SRL East from Cheltenham to Box Hill is now under construction, with tunnelling to start in 2026 and trains to be running by 2035.
Suburban Connect is constructing the 16kms of tunnels between Cheltenham and Glen Waverley using 4 tunnel boring machines and a range of excavation methods. The works also include 55 cross passages, 2 tunnel portal structures, 2 station box excavations and associated supports.
We are seeking an experienced and proactive Health, Wellbeing and Training Manager to manage portfolio of support functions and relevant subject matter experts to ensure the project meets and exceeds its contractual and regulatory requirements including but not limited to training, safety and health / wellbeing.
This pivotal role enhances our workplace culture by promoting wellbeing, supporting safe work practices, and ensuring timely, effective injury management and return‐to‐work outcomes.
You will partner closely with leaders, Health & Safety, and external providers to deliver evidence-based wellbeing initiatives, engaging training programs, and compliant injury management processes.
Responsibilities
* Lead the design, implementation, and evaluation of wellbeing initiatives aligned with organisational goals.
* Deliver programs that enhance mental health, resilience, psychological safety, and work–life balance.
* Supporting a training team to develop industry leading training programs and accredited units to leave a legacy for the construction industry.
* Review training needs analyses and oversee ongoing competency requirements.
* Ensure training programs meet legislative, accreditation, and organisational standards.
* Assisting in business transformation to build efficiencies through centralisation and process improvements and empower our Injury Management team with the right capability to deliver strategic solutions.
* Oversee end‐to‐end injury management processes for work‐related and non‐work‐related injuries, as well as early intervention strategies to support recovery and minimise lost time.
* Build strong partnerships with internal teams and external specialists to support wellbeing, training, and injury management outcomes.
* Promote a culture of continuous improvement, safety, and support through communication and engagement strategies.
Key Skills / Requirements
* Tertiary qualifications in Project Management, Engineering, Safety, Risk, Environment or similar.
* Management and leadership (5 years)
* Desirable experience (5+ years) in Construction and/or heavy industry and high-risk workplaces.
* Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams including ensuring alignment between business needs and technical execution.
* Proven record of organisational, reporting, and problem-solving skills.
* Excellent client-facing communication and stakeholder management
* A collaborative leadership style, able to inspire and coach high-performing teams.
* Desirable – Safety, Environment or Quality previous field experience
