About the role

The Manager, Place & Events leads Council's events, placemaking, sponsorship, and local business initiatives.

This role is responsible for delivering a high-quality Events Program, including major festivals, community events, and activations that reflect community aspirations and are safe, well-governed, and engaging.

Overseeing place-based initiatives across town centres and neighbourhood precincts, the role ensures placemaking and public art enhance local experience and support economic growth.

The position plays a key role in delivering the Community Strategic Plan, ensuring services are efficient, sustainable, and compliant.

Key responsibilities include (but not limited to):

* Lead and manage the Place & Events team to deliver high-quality events, programs, and activations across Council spaces
* Build strong partnerships and represent Council in stakeholder forums to deliver community outcomes
* Align service delivery with Council's strategic priorities and operational plans
* Manage budgets, sponsorships, and contracts in line with governance and procurement requirements
* Drive place-based initiatives that enhance activation, accessibility, and community engagement
* Identify opportunities to boost local economic activity and improve visitor and community experience
* Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, policies, and safety requirements
* Contribute to the delivery of the Community Strategic Plan and organisational goals

About the person

To be successful in this position, ideally you will have:

* Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline, with at least 5 years' experience and a commitment to ongoing professional development
* Proven leadership of multi-disciplinary teams
* Demonstrated experience delivering major events, including compliance requirements
* Strong understanding of placemaking and activation principles
* Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills
* Experience managing budgets, procurement, and governance processes
* Ability to operate effectively at both strategic and operational levels
* Current Working with Children Check clearance
