Job Title: Mental Health Worker

Albury Wodonga Aboriginal Health Service (AWAHS) is a leading provider of first-class primary health care services to the Aboriginal community in Albury, Wodonga, and surrounding areas. Their mission is to deliver comprehensive, quality health and family services that respect Aboriginal culture.

The role of the Mental Health Worker is multifaceted, requiring a deep understanding of the mental health needs of clients and their families. As part of AWAHS' team, you will be responsible for assessing the mental health wellness needs of clients and promoting acceptance of people with mental health issues within the community.


Key Responsibilities:

* Engage with families, carers, and clients affected by mental health issues using a client-focused approach
* Provide case management to support clients effectively
* Deliver culturally sensitive and holistic programs and services to promote social and emotional wellbeing among Aboriginal people
* Increase accessibility of mental health services within the local Aboriginal community
* Empower the local Aboriginal community to take charge of their health and family wellbeing
* Foster relationships with mainstream health providers to enhance mental health service delivery

As a Mental Health Worker, you will bring a range of skills and qualifications to this role. These include:


Required Skills and Qualifications:

* Experience working in the mental health sector and/or an appropriate formal qualification in the field of health/social or behavioural sciences,
* Demonstrated understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures with established local community connections
* Experience in goal setting, connecting individuals and families with the right people, support services and opportunities to meet their needs
* Ability to cultivate effective relationships with peers and clients
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
* Commitment to collaborative teamwork and the delivery of comprehensive community services
