Who We Are
Garbutt State School was officially opened in 1932 in the suburb of Garbutt, close to the Townsville Airport and the RAAF base and historically has had close connections to the Australian Defence Force Families who lived in the suburb. Our school logo consists of a fighter jet and the original school motto was "We Aim High". The school motto was modernised and we now include "Smart and Strong" along with "We Aim High". The students who now attend our school come from diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds. Our school has a strong commitment to reconciliation and the promotion of culture and inclusion within our school community.

As the HOD CC at Garbutt State School your role will include:
* Co‐design and implement culturally responsive teaching and learning strategies that reflect the local community context, evidenced across the three levels of planning, pedagogical practices, and classroom artefacts.
* Co‐design and implement a Parent and Community Voice Group to foster authentic engagement in school decision‐making and build strong partnerships that support teaching, learning, and wellbeing priorities.
* Strengthen collaborative transition processes with early years providers and feeder high schools to support continuity of learning through visits, family engagement, and enrolment support.
* Establish effective sustainable systems for prioritising and monitoring our most at risk and vulnerable students.
