Position Information
Ashford Central School is a K-12 school, located in the small rural community of Ashford which has a population of 570. Students of Ashford Central School are drawn from the township of Ashford and surrounding district. Ashford is 57km north of Inverell and 40km south of the Queensland border. The enrolment of Ashford Central School in 2025 is around 123 students, with approximately half each in primary and secondary departments.
The school context has shifted over the past 5 years with a change in our demographic and an increase in our Family Occupation and Education Index (FOEI). 40% of our students identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander. Our families can live up to 35km from our school and travel long distances during the week for school, sport and other activities.
Specific Selection Criteria
In addition to the general selection criteria, approval to teach infants and/or primary, with the proven capacity to balance the dual roles of an exemplary classroom teacher and the complex responsibilities of an Assistant Principal in a K-12 setting, whilst sustaining and developing current school practices.
* Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, leading to the building of productive, inclusive and trusting partnerships with students, families, staff, the local AECG, external agencies, and the wider community.
* Capacity in leading the development and delivery of programs to support, promote and enhance academic achievement, engagement and wellbeing for a diverse range of students.
* Skills to lead ongoing curriculum reform and evidenced based professional learning for all staff across Kindergarten to Year 6 and a demonstrated impact reflected in student data.
General Selection Criteria
1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policy
Conditions
An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
