EL1 hourly rate contract, 6-months + possible extension

About the Department

The National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) is an independent statutory agency that is responsible for implementing the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), which will support a better life for hundreds of thousands of Australians with a significant and permanent disability and their families and carers. The NDIA values a positive contemporary attitude to disability.

Whilst engaged by the NDIA, this is an independent support to the Independent Advisory Council (IAC).

About the Role

This identified EL1 role leads secretariat support for the Independent Advisory Council (IAC), with specific responsibility for supporting the First Nations Reference Group. Working under broad direction, you will deliver complex and sensitive work to ensure the IAC meets its governance and statutory obligations and provides high-quality advice to the NDIA Board.

You will build strong relationships with IAC members, Reference Groups and internal stakeholders, oversee meeting coordination and papers, and ensure all advice and materials are culturally safe, accessible and written in plain English. This role suits an experienced leader who can operate confidently in a complex, fast-paced environment.

Key Duties
* Lead secretariat support for the Independent Advisory Council (IAC), with primary responsibility for the First Nations Reference Group.
* Coordinate and oversee governance processes, ensuring the IAC meets its statutory, policy and procedural obligations.
* Prepare, quality assure and distribute meeting papers, agendas, minutes and action logs that are accessible, culturally safe and written in plain English.
* Manage meeting logistics, including attendance, travel and accommodation, ensuring cultural and disability support needs are met.
* Build and maintain strong relationships with IAC members, Reference Groups, Independent Advisors, NDIA executives and external stakeholders.
* Support the induction and onboarding of new Council and Reference Group members.
* Contribute to the development and maintenance of governance frameworks, policies, procedures and guidance materials.
* Oversee secretariat processes including record management, sitting fees and workflow coordination.
* Exercise sound judgement and leadership in managing complex, sensitive issues in a fast-changing environment.
Essential Criteria
* Identifies as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person (affirmative measures role).
* Demonstrated experience leading or coordinating secretariat, governance, committee or advisory functions in a government or comparable environment.
* Strong understanding of governance, statutory obligations and decision-making processes within complex organisations.
* Proven ability to manage and deliver complex work under broad direction, balancing competing priorities and timeframes.
* Demonstrated experience preparing high-quality meeting papers, reports and documentation written in clear, plain English.
* Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build trust and work effectively with senior leaders, community representatives and diverse groups.
* Well-developed judgement, problem-solving and decision-making capability in complex and sensitive contexts.
* Demonstrated understanding of cultural safety and accessibility, particularly in relation to First Nations people and people with disability.
* Ability to lead, influence and support others while contributing positively to a collaborative team environment.
