About The Organisation
The Curatorial and Collections Coordinator will help interpret and care for one of Australia’s most unique and significant collections – the Cunningham Dax Collection of art. This role supports and coordinates key areas and functions of The Dax Centre including Exhibitions, Collections Management and Loans and Licensing. Reporting to the Gallery Manager, the role delivers engaging creative programs in collaboration with artists, curators, and organisations across Victoria. It also expands access to the Cunningham Dax Collection through the Loans and Licensing program, supports audience growth and sustainability, and contributes to policy development, fundraising activities, and grant proposals.
Key responsibilities
- Oversee daily collections management and care, including object handling, movement, and rotations.
- Maintain preventative conservation measures, including pest management and environmental monitoring.
- Prepare works for exhibitions, loans, and tours, including condition reporting, matting, framing, and documentation.
- Ensure the delivery of exhibitions and creative projects in line with conservation standards and best practice.
- Support the digitisation program to expand access to the Collection.
- Develop and deliver engaging exhibitions and public programs that connect the Collection with contemporary audiences.
- Collaborate with a diverse range of artists, curators, and organisations.
- Coordinate installation and de-installation of exhibitions.
- Develop and implement loans strategies and coordinate the loans and licensing program.
- Contribute to fundraising activities and grant applications.
About You
- 1–2 years’ experience curating and coordinating high-quality exhibitions and artistic programs with a focus on audience engagement.
- A tertiary qualification in museum studies, cultural heritage, history, curatorship, or a related discipline.
- Experience working with public museum or art collections, including preventative conservation measures.
- Knowledge of and experience applying industry best practices, standards, and ethics for the care, documentation, and management of cultural collections.
- Experience with digital collection strategies and collection management systems.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a demonstrated passion for art and mental health.
