HOTA (Home of the Arts) is seeking a dynamic Arts & Access Program Lead to shape and deliver an innovative, diverse, and accessible annual program of cultural content.The role shapes the artistic framework for performances and festivals that justify investment and subsidy by Experience Gold Coast, overseeing artistic planning, content selection, and program delivery.
Working alongside producing resources, it has overall accountability for project management, including negotiations, budgeting, proposals, business cases, and briefing marketing and production teams.About the RoleThis senior leadership position plays a crucial role in curating and executing a vibrant program that champions creativity, community engagement, and education.
Aligned with the Arts & Culture Strategy, this position manages the annual budget for subsidised events and is measured against KPIs related to visitation, art form gaps, and community inclusion.
With a broad programming scope, the role spans multiple art forms, including cinema, literature, and visual arts, across all venues within the HOTA Precinct.Key ResponsibilitiesArtistic & Programming StrategyDevelop and oversee HOTA's arts and access performance program, ensuring artistic success.Manage existing programming offerings, including Wonder, BLEACH*, and Kids Take Over, while developing new programs, commissions, and events that maintain the highest artistic standards.Contribute to the Arts & Culture strategic planning process and support broader portfolio priorities, ensuring cross-arts programming opportunities across the site.Research emerging trends in contemporary culture and audience consumption patterns to create new opportunities for development and performance at HOTA.Stakeholder & Industry EngagementDevelop and maintain strong artistic relationships with community stakeholders, industry peers, producers, performers, promoters, artists, expert practitioners, and companies at a national and international level.Work collaboratively with internal stakeholders, including Marketing, Publicity, Partnerships, Production Services, and Theatre & Events, ensuring seamless program planning and execution.Lead external relationship development and propose programming projects that align with budget and the Arts & Culture Strategy.Financial & Business ManagementDevelop budgets for projects, including detailed expenditure costing, revenue modelling, and financial oversight through to project completion.Undertake artist deals and negotiations, ensuring sustainable financial outcomes.Develop data-driven business cases to substantiate project viability and secure approvals.Complete post-performance reviews to inform future programming.Identify and pursue funding opportunities through grants, festivals, partnerships, and co-commissioners.Leadership & Team ManagementLead and inspire a high-performing team across producing, venue hire, and cinema operations, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and accountability.Set a clear vision for the team, ensuring alignment with HOTA's strategic objectives and commercial performance goals.Develop and mentor team members, providing regular feedback, coaching, and professional development opportunities to enhance their skills and capabilities.Drive performance excellence by setting clear KPIs, holding team members accountable for their contributions.Actively manage and resolve conflicts, ensuring a positive and productive work environment where challenges are addressed constructively.Foster resilience and adaptability within the team, ensuring they can navigate industry challenges, shifting priorities, and high-pressure environments.Champion collaboration by breaking down silos between departments, ensuring seamless communication and teamwork across marketing, production, and stakeholder engagement functions.Decision Making & Operational ExecutionExercise high-level judgement in program development, balancing artistic vision with financial and operational feasibility.Make strategic decisions on programming, partnerships, and investment priorities, ensuring alignment with HOTA's mission and strategic objectives.Broadly authorised to make operational planning and delivery decisions, provided they align with policy and guidance from the Head of Arts & Culture.Industry Knowledge & NetworksLeverage industry contacts to stay informed on works in development, funding and investment opportunities, production results, venue strategies, international shows, and touring options.Stay ahead of industry trends to drive innovation and growth in HOTA's programming.Willingness to travel as required for networking, industry events, and project development.What We're Looking ForKnowledge & ExperienceProven experience in supporting people and projects through administrative functions while contributing to the development and delivery of diverse arts programs, with a solid understanding of event production requirements and logistics.Demonstrated experience and understanding of the arts, entertainment and cultural landscape from performance requirements, artist liaison, ticketing/marketing builds, scheduling, and industry best practices principals.An understanding of contract compilation and management to ensure adequate protections, deliverables and key objective are met and in order to ensure compliance.Strong background in building and maintaining partnerships with artists, arts organisations, community members, and external stakeholders to drive impactful and collaborative programming.Ability to monitor multiple and varied projects, meet key deadlines, and coordinate resources effectively while coordinating with multiple stakeholders.Strong administrative experience with the ability to adapt, or learn to, extrapolate data for reports, use digital software platforms, with proficiencies in standard IT desktop applications.Skilled in time management, workload prioritising and driving projects to completion while maintaining a flexible and supportive approach.Excellent ability to
