Senior Investigator at Department of Justice QLD

A Senior Investigator with the Legal Services Commission is part of the Professional Conduct team responsible for assessing, investigating, and reviewing complaints and recommending actions to the Commissioner. The role involves independent and collaborative work supporting investigators, lawyers, regulatory litigators and the Commissioner in discharging regulatory functions.


Pay

Base pay: $133,603.00/yr - $143,125.00/yr


Responsibilities

* Plan, coordinate, conduct and review investigations into the conduct of lawyers, law practice employees and unlawful operators and provide high‑level advice to the Commissioner.
* Communicate clearly, accurately and effectively with a wide range of stakeholders including team members, senior members of the legal profession, their clients and consumers of legal services.
* Manage stakeholders' expectations and demands appropriately.
* Identify relevant issues in complex complaints and make sound recommendations regarding appropriate courses of action.
* Identify evidentiary requirements and contribute to the preparation and execution of necessary investigations, site inspections, search warrants or other coercive powers where appropriate.
* Contribute to the preparation and prosecution of discipline applications and other enforcement action before the disciplinary bodies and courts.
* Contribute to the training and mentoring of other staff of the Commission.
* Manage your own work responsibilities in a timely and efficient manner, provide a high level of written communication and record‑keeping skills, and work effectively in a team environment while being able to work independently.
* Work flexibly to provide back‑up and coverage across other duties relevant to the assessment, investigation and prosecution of matters.
* Model professional and ethical behaviour and act in accordance with the Queensland Public Service legislative framework and Code of Conduct.


Qualifications

* High‑level analytical and problem‑solving skills in the conduct of complex and/or sensitive investigations and the use of coercive powers.
* Ability to isolate relevant issues and exercise sound judgment in determining and applying appropriate legislation, case law and professional standards, while incorporating a thorough knowledge of natural justice and procedural fairness.
* Proven ability to lead in a professional services environment, supported by a record of achievement in delivering high‑quality performance outcomes and customer service, and managing a range of projects with conflicting timeframes.
* Expertise in professional conduct regulatory functions, investigatory and/or legal practice management, including the ability to rapidly acquire and apply knowledge of legislation, policies and procedures.
* High‑level communication, interpersonal and negotiation skills with a proven ability to develop collaborative relationships with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders.
