About the Job
This full‐time ongoing opportunity is responsible for the safe and efficient operation and maintenance of Lock 2 and its associated weirs, fishways, floodplain structures and facilities. The role plays a vital part in enabling safe river navigation, supporting environmental outcomes, managing river flows, providing high‐quality service to river users, and ensuring our assets are properly maintained. The successful applicant will be required to live on site at Lock 2, where a house is provided (rent payable). Lock 2 is located on the River Murray at Taylorville South Australia. The position includes rostered weekend work every second weekend.
You will contribute directly to keeping our river operations running smoothly by supporting safe public access, performing monitoring and data collection, and maintaining high standards of environmental, safety, and operational compliance.

About Operations – River Murray
Our River Murray operations team supports the effective management of locks, weirs, river structures and environmental assets to maintain reliable navigation, safe water flows, and sustainable river health outcomes. We play a critical role in delivering water services that benefit communities, industries and the environment across South Australia.
Your Responsibilities for This Opportunity
Fostering trust with our people, customers and community by providing expert advice and service that ensure we effectively communicate and deliver our work across South Australia, every day.
You will:
* Maintain compliance with all organisational, safety and legislative requirements, including WHS, environmental responsibilities and records management.
* Participate in team activities, follow asset management procedures, and utilise relevant operating systems.
* Identify and report hazards, near misses and incidents using established JHA and SWP processes.
* Contribute to team goals and a culture of service excellence.
* Operate and maintain lock and weir structures to ensure safe navigation for river users.
* Manage river flows as directed, collect operational data, and complete routine inspections of infrastructure.
* Ensure safe public access to locks and facilities, respond to enquiries, and maintain high levels of customer service.
* Assist with fishway operations and monitoring and support environmental asset maintenance.
* Use a range of electronic measuring devices, tools and equipment safely and effectively.
* Complete grounds and facility maintenance to ensure a safe, clean and well‐presented environment.
* Undertake basic site repairs, upkeep and operational checks as required.
Your Success in This Role Will Come From
* Proven ability to use modern computer systems and reporting tools effectively.
* A current Driver's Licence and White Card.
* Strong understanding of JHAs and SWPs, with the ability to identify and report hazards.
* Competence using electronic measuring devices, plant, equipment and hand tools.
* Effective verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to perform basic mathematical calculations.
Desirable
* Knowledge of river systems and experience working with locks, weirs or environmental water infrastructure.
* A Restricted Coxswain Certificate and valid Boat Licence.
* Certificate III in Water Operations (or currently working towards it).
* Licences to operate a Crane Truck or Excavator.
