Senior Technician Job Description
In this key role, you will be responsible for providing technical support and expertise to the Faculty of Engineering, Computing & the Environment.
* You will provide expert technical and teaching support for laboratory-based teaching, including water and soil analysis and geological engineering experiments.
* Prepare all equipment and materials for practical classes.
* Support departmental fieldwork and research activities.
* Maintain and operate specialist equipment, including survey instruments and analytical chemistry apparatus.
* Train staff and students on laboratory and field equipment.
* Ensure health and safety compliance by conducting risk assessments as required.
* Manage equipment inventories and procure consumables and replacement parts.
* Collaborate with academic staff to develop innovative exercises and support research projects.
Required Skills and Qualifications
* A science-based degree or experience in environmental science or geology is essential.
* Hands-on experience with analytical chemistry, geological and survey equipment is necessary.
* Strong understanding of health and safety regulations in laboratory and fieldwork contexts is required.
* Excellent organisational skills and prioritisation abilities are essential.
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills are necessary for training and supporting students and staff.
