The Electrical Associate Director plays a key leadership role in supporting the strategic direction, values and growth objectives of the business, contributing to sustainable performance, operational excellence and profitability.

This role is responsible for leading the development, design and coordination of Electrical engineering services across projects of varying scale and complexity. The Associate Director ensures projects are delivered in line with Black & White's technical standards, quality expectations and programme timelines, while optimising resources and maintaining strong commercial discipline.

Working closely with the Technical Director, the Associate Director provides leadership across technical excellence, team development and business alignment. The role acts as a key liaison between Front Office and delivery teams, strengthens engineering capability, builds high-performing teams through effective recruitment and mentoring, and champions Black & White's "One Team" culture.

As a senior leader, the Associate Director demonstrates sound judgement, professionalism and integrity in all client and stakeholder interactions, ensuring consistent performance standards and rewarding excellence within the team.

role responsibilities

TECHNICAL LEADERSHIP & ENGINEERING DELIVERY

* Lead and mentor multi-disciplinary engineering design teams to achieve project objectives and maintain high technical standards.
* Deliver and oversee Electrical engineering design services, including power systems and MV/HV network design for substations and associated infrastructure.
* Prepare and guide MV/HV equipment specifications, data sheets and project documentation in line with company standards.
* Define and review protection schemes for MV/HV networks, including preparation of protection strategies and technical reports.
* Review and guide power system studies including load flow, fault level, arc flash, earthing, harmonic and protection coordination studies.
* Lead or oversee engineering calculations to ensure compliance with industry, statutory and quality standards.
* Ensure manufacturing, installation and operational testing activities meet functional and client requirements.
* Conduct technical reviews of documentation to ensure quality, compliance and consistency with Black & White standards.

PROJECT DELIVERY & COMMERCIAL MANAGEMENT

* Monitor project progress, review schedules and adjust plans as required to maintain delivery and cost control.
* Maintain oversight of commercial dashboards and invoicing (including Indian projects where applicable).
* Identify risks and implement appropriate mitigation measures through effective internal controls and delegation.
* Conduct lessons learned reviews to drive continuous improvement across future projects.

CLIENT ENGAGEMENT & BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT

* Represent the Company at senior technical meetings with clients, consultants and contractor teams.
* Contribute to winning new work through client engagement, technical credibility and proposal support.
* Take an active role in sales and marketing initiatives, supporting proposals and winning new work.
* Develop and maintain strong client relationships to support sustainable business growth.
* Promote the Company through participation in industry forums, conferences and trade publications.

PEOPLE, LEADERSHIP & COLLABORATION

* Train, mentor and coach engineering staff to build technical capability and succession strength.
* Support and contribute to the Company's Technical Committee in advancing design excellence, innovation and compliance.
* Stay abreast of emerging technologies, software and industry developments, recommending adoption where beneficial.

education and training requirement (minimum)

* Bachelor's degree (BSc / BEng / B.Tech) in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
* Postgraduate qualification in Engineering, Project Management or related discipline (advantageous).

experience requirements (minimum)

The Electrical Associate Director is a highly experienced and accomplished Electrical engineering professional with the technical depth, leadership capability and commercial acumen required to lead complex projects and high-performing teams.

* Significant experience in Electrical systems design and specification across a broad range of building typologies.
* Strong technical authority in Electrical engineering, with working knowledge of HVAC, PHE and Fire Protection interfaces.
* Experience in MV/HV systems, substations and associated infrastructure design is highly desirable.
* Sound knowledge of international codes, standards and health & safety legislation.
* Proficiency in industry-standard software such as ETAP, Amtech, Dialux, Navis, BIM 360 and related design tools.
* Strong understanding of capital equipment applications within Electrical systems.
* Proven track record of delivering projects successfully against technical, programme and financial objectives.
* Experience managing complex or international projects (desirable).
* Strong commercial awareness, with the ability to manage scope changes, cost control and resource planning effectively.
* Demonstrated ability to take a long-term, strategic view in technical and commercial decision-making.
* Experience leading and mentoring multi-disciplinary engineering teams.
* Demonstrated ability to manage complex or escalated challenges with sound judgement and professionalism.
* Proven success in client engagement and contributing to business development and work-winning activities.
* Ability to represent the organisation confidently at senior-level client and industry engagements.
* Demonstrated commitment to developing talent, including future leaders.
* Strong business awareness and ability to act in the best interests of the firm as a whole.
* Excellent verbal and written English communication skills.
* High level of technical understanding with the ability to communicate complex concepts clearly.
* Strong presentation, meeting facilitation and stakeholder engagement skills.
* Ability to prioritise workload and deliver to deadlines across multiple projects.
* Analytical thinker with the ability to identify trends, benchmark performance and implement improvements.
