Responsibilities

The Clinical Nurse Specialist delivers person‐centred specialist nursing care at an advanced practice level for the designated speciality in collaboration with team members. Provides clinical leadership, support and supervision to less experienced clinicians to achieve people‐focused quality care, exercises extended autonomy in clinical decision making, and leads the development of nursing specialty practice advancement.

Utilises evidence‐based practice, critical thinking, and effective communication to advocate for and implement individualised person‐centred care. Supervises, delegates and negotiates with others to deliver quality nursing care and embraces change in care coordination.

Qualifications & Selection Criteria
  • Current Registration with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA) as a Registered Nurse.
  • Relevant post‐registration qualifications in Palliative Care.
  • Minimum of three years' experience in the clinical speciality.
  • Knowledge and experience of the complexities and challenges involved in providing speciality nursing care within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Ability to exercise extended autonomy in clinical decision making and leadership in the advancement of nursing specialty practice.
  • Effective clinical communication through IT, written and verbal means, with strong interpersonal skills.
  • Application of evidence‐based practice and critical thinking to advocate for and implement person‐centred care at an extended role level with a commitment to quality improvement.
  • Ability to supervise, delegate and negotiate with others to deliver quality nursing care, and willingness to demonstrate leadership and embrace change.
  • Evidence of professional development and commitment to maintaining competence, enhancing skills, and sharing expertise as a resource person and mentor.
  • Current unrestricted driver's licence and willingness to drive/travel as required, including long distances and overnight stays.
