About the role
Mater Hospital Brisbane is seeking compassionate and dedicated Registered Nurses – Mental Health to join Catherine's House on a casual basis. This is a shift-working position, involving 12‑hour shifts across. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a world‑class perinatal and infant mental health service, supporting mothers experiencing acute mental illness while co‑admitted with their baby. Working within a supportive, multidisciplinary team, you'll contribute to a model of care that empowers mothers as the primary carers for their infants.
In this role, you will deliver safe, contemporary, and recovery‑focused mental health nursing care to mothers and primary carers across both the Mother–Baby inpatient unit and the outpatient day program.
Responsibilities
* Providing high‑quality, evidence‑based mental health care aligned with Catherine's House's integrated perinatal model of care.
* Supporting consumers to build parenting confidence and strengthen early attachment with their baby.
* Collaborating as part of a multidisciplinary team to conduct assessments, develop treatment plans, and support safe discharge.
* Promoting positive team culture, offering mentorship to junior staff, and participating in service improvement activities.
About you
You are a dedicated and compassionate mental health nurse who thrives in a supportive, collaborative environment and is motivated to make a meaningful difference in the lives of mothers and their infants.
You will bring:
Qualifications
* Current AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse or Registered Midwife (no restrictions).
* Experience or interest in mental health nursing, ideally within perinatal or infant mental health settings.
* Ability to apply mental health assessment, treatment planning, therapeutic interventions, and safe de‑escalation practices.
* Strong teamwork skills and the ability to contribute respectfully within a multidisciplinary environment.
* Computer literacy or the ability to acquire relevant system skills (e.g., CIMHA).
* Willingness to work towards relevant mental health or perinatal mental health qualifications (desirable).
* AMHP eligibility or credentialing with ACMHN, or willingness to pursue (desirable).
