We are seeking an experienced HSE Officer to support Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects during commissioning, operations, and maintenance phases. This role is critical in managing safety risks associated with high-energy electrical systems, live commissioning activities, and long-term operational environments. You will work closely with commissioning engineers, O&M technicians, site managers, and contractors to ensure the safe execution of works across grid-connected BESS assets.
Key Responsibilities
* Implement and enforce HSE management plans specific to BESS operations and commissioning activities
* Ensure compliance with WHS legislation, electrical safety regulations, environmental requirements, and project-specific safety standards
* Conduct regular site inspections, audits, and safety observations focused on battery systems, PCS/inverters, transformers, and HV infrastructure
* Provide HSE oversight during BESS commissioning, energisation, testing, and grid synchronisation activities
* Review and approve SWMS, JHAs, risk assessments, and commissioning methodologies for high-risk activities
* Monitor HV/LV works, isolations, LOTO procedures, and live electrical testing
* Lead incident, near-miss, and hazard investigations and drive corrective actions
* Prepare HSE reports, safety metrics, and compliance documentation for internal and external stakeholders
* Deliver site inductions, toolbox talks, and task‐specific safety briefings for BESS activities
* Promote a strong safety culture across operations and commissioning teams through coaching and engagement
* Interface with EPCs, OEM commissioning teams, fire authorities, network service providers, and contractors to ensure HSE alignment
* Participate in daily site coordination meetings and commissioning readiness reviews
About You
* Diploma or Certificate IV in Work Health & Safety (or equivalent)
* 3–5+ years' experience in HSE roles within BESS, renewables, electrical, or high‐risk industrial environments
* Strong understanding of HV/LV electrical safety, LOTO, and live operational environments
* Experience supporting BESS commissioning, energisation, and operational handover
* Willingness to travel to operational and commissioning sites as required
