Senior veterinarian

Vetlink
Posted: 10 March
Offer description

An outstanding opportunity is available for a highly experienced veterinarian to step into a senior clinical leadership role within an ASAV-accredited small animal hospital in the ACT. This position combines advanced clinical practice with genuine leadership responsibility, offering the chance to influence standards of care, mentor colleagues and help shape the direction of the hospital.

Vetlink is seeking a Supervisory Veterinary Surgeon to join a friendly and collaborative team of five vets, experienced nurses, a practice manager and dedicated reception staff. The hospital is proud of its reputation for delivering first-class veterinary services and working closely with clients to optimise patient outcomes. With dedicated consult nurses and a strong team culture, the environment supports high-quality medicine and effective collaboration.

The large, purpose-built hospital is well equipped with digital x-ray, including dental, ultrasound and full in-house laboratory facilities. The caseload is varied and interesting across all areas of small animal medicine and surgery. You will be responsible for managing complex medical and surgical cases, performing routine and advanced procedures, and ensuring all clinical work aligns with modern, evidence-based standards and professional conduct requirements.

In this leadership role, you will guide and support vets and nursing staff, uphold clinical governance and compliance standards, and contribute to continuous improvement across the hospital. You will work closely with the Practice Director, who manages non-clinical operations, allowing you to focus on clinical excellence, team development and maintaining the hospital’s high standards of care.

The clinic operates Monday to Friday from 8.00 am to 6.30 pm and Saturdays from 8.00 am to 2.00 pm. Flexible shifts are available, and there are no after-hours or on-call requirements.

The successful applicant will be an experienced and confident small animal veterinarian with strong leadership capabilities and a demonstrated commitment to clinical governance and high standards of patient care. You will be comfortable taking responsibility for complex cases, mentoring less experienced colleagues and maintaining a positive, accountable team culture. Excellent communication, organisation and professionalism are essential.

The practice offers a salary package of $140,000 to $160,000 per annum plus superannuation, commensurate with experience and leadership responsibility. A relocation allowance is available, along with ongoing support for continuing professional development, including paid CPD leave and an allowance. Additional benefits include access to an employee assistance program, health and wellbeing discounts, regular team-building events and supportive management.

Located in the ACT, the hospital is within easy reach of all areas of Canberra, with free onsite parking and local cafés, shops and walking paths nearby. Canberra offers an excellent lifestyle, with expansive green spaces, cultural attractions and a relaxed pace of life, as well as convenient access to the Snowy Mountains and South Coast for weekend getaways. It is an appealing location for veterinarians seeking both career progression and quality of life.

The employer is willing to assist with a work visa sponsorship for suitable overseas candidates. Applicants must have a Bachelor of Veterinary Science or equivalent and be eligible for registration as a veterinary practitioner in Australia.

This is a genuine opportunity to take on a senior, influential position within an ASAV-accredited hospital, where your clinical expertise and leadership will make a meaningful difference.
