Overview
The Opportunity: Reporting to the Head Veterinarian, you'll play a critical role in maintaining the health and wellbeing of our animal collection, with a primary focus on marine mammals and marine wildlife, while also supporting wildlife, exotic, farm and domestic species as required.
Veterinarian – Full Time Salary | 12-months Fixed Term
Sea World, Main Beach, Gold Coast
This is a hands on, dynamic role where no two days are the same, combining clinical excellence, preventative medicine, research, collaboration and leadership within a highly specialised environment.
Responsibilities
* Monitor animal health and welfare across the collection, implementing preventative medicine and disease management programs
* Undertake medical procedures, diagnostics, anaesthesia and surgery, making timely and well considered clinical decisions
* Ensure compliance with biosecurity requirements, government legislation and Australian Standards
* Manage and administer medications, diagnostics and treatments, ensuring correct dosages and secure medicinal stock control
* Maintain and oversee veterinary equipment, including x ray and ultrasound systems
* Support research initiatives and collaborative partnerships with external institutions and experts
* Provide leadership and direction to Veterinary team members, including day to day coordination and training
* Step into the Head Veterinarian role when required, maintaining continuity of care and strong team relationships
* Actively contribute to workplace health and safety, including risk assessments, incident investigations and zoonotic disease management
What We're Looking For
* Bachelor of Veterinary Science (or equivalent) and eligibility for full registration with the Queensland Veterinary Surgeons Board
* Demonstrated post graduate experience in marine animal veterinary care (essential)
* Post graduate qualification in zoo and wildlife medicine or equivalent experience (highly regarded)
* Experience in zoo, aquarium or wildlife environments, including medicine, surgery, disease investigation and chemical restraint
* Strong knowledge of animal welfare, biosecurity, husbandry, nutrition and enrichment practices
* Excellent communication, leadership and team based working skills
* Proven ability to work under pressure, manage competing priorities and meet deadlines
* Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
* A proactive, organised and solutions focused approach
