Support Worker for Aboriginal Women

About the Role
The Support Worker will provide culturally appropriate support to Aboriginal women experiencing or at risk of family violence. This includes identifying their needs, providing immediate and short-term responses, and referring them to relevant services.
The Support Worker will work with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women to understand their cultural and personal safety needs. They will apply this understanding to identify risks and develop immediate safety plans with the support of others in the Community Engagement team.
The role involves building a safe environment for Aboriginal women to gather and participate in events, activities, and programs aimed at empowering them with knowledge, friendship, and support.
The Support Worker will coordinate and assist with the delivery of the annual program of activities, both online and face-to-face. They will ensure that the activities run smoothly and connect with the cultural, social, and personal interests of Aboriginal women.
The ideal candidate will be an energetic person who enjoys group work and demonstrates warmth, humour, and flexibility.
Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people are strongly encouraged to apply.
Requirements
* Experience working in Aboriginal organisations and communities, requiring knowledge and skills to support Aboriginal women.
* A Victorian Employee Working With Children Check card or willingness to obtain one.
* Willingness to obtain a Police Check at the employer's expense.
* A current driver's licence, as some out-of-hours travel and regular regional travel may be required.
