Location: Taree, NSW
The position
As a Lecturer or Senior Lecturer in Medicine, you will support the University of Newcastle’s Joint Medical Program (JMP) within the Manning Clinical School. Reporting to the Clinical Dean, you will provide academic leadership, clinical teaching, and supervision for Year 4 and Year 5 medical students undertaking their core clinical placements.
This role is responsible for delivering high quality teaching, facilitating small group learning, and assessing students in alignment with the JMP curriculum, with a focus on developing clinical skills, clinical reasoning, communication, and professional practice. The role also involves coordinating with local health service staff to ensure high-quality clinical experiences, contributing to curriculum development and quality improvement, and supporting student wellbeing during rural placements.

To be considered for appointment
Level B (Lecturer)
- A doctoral qualification/PhD (or near completion) or equivalent accreditation and standing in Medicine.
- Current registration as a medical practitioner with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) with no restrictions, notations or conditions.
- Proven experience in teaching, assessment, and/or curriculum development at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
- Evidence of leadership through peer mentoring or clinical leadership roles.
- A commitment to collaborative engagement with clinicians and health services to improve healthcare outcomes.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams.
- A collaborative and adaptable approach to supporting all aspects of the Joint Medical Program.
Level C (Senior Lecturer)
- Unconditional registration as a Specialist Medical Practitioner with AHPRA (or equivalent), with recent clinical experience.
- Active Fellowship with a recognised Australian Specialty College.
- Demonstrated leadership in learning and teaching, including course coordination, curriculum development, and mentoring at undergraduate, honours and postgraduate levels.
- A strong record of clinical supervision of medical students, junior doctors, and registrars.
- A track record of collaborative, health-related research or quality improvement initiatives.
- Proven leadership and management capabilities.
