SALARY: $15.50 per hour starting wage, one hour minimum compensation guaranteed. For current district employees applying as an additional role- total work hours will be up to 40/week.
PURPOSE: The Morning School Bus Attendant assists the bus driver in ensuring the safe transportation of students to school. This position is responsible for implementing and overseeing Positive Behavior Supports and Interventions (PBIS) and for maintaining order on the bus, assisting students with special needs, and helping create a secure environment for student transportation.
DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
Safety and Supervision:
Monitor student behavior and ensure established rules and procedures as outlined by PBIS, MISD transportation expectations, and school policies and procedures are being followed by students
Use PBIS to recognize and reinforce positive bus behavior
Assist students in safely boarding and exiting the bus
Ensure students remain seated and follow safety protocols during transit
Report safety concerns, incidents, or behavioral issues to the bus driver and transportation supervisor, and when appropriate building principal or building principal's designee
Student Assistance:
Provide assistance to students with disabilities or special needs, including help with mobility equipment, wheelchairs, and safety restraints
Support students who may need help with seat belts, bags, or other personal items
Offer guidance and reassurance to anxious or upset students
Monitor students for signs of illness or distress during transport
Communication and Documentation:
Maintain accurate records of student attendance and behavior incidents
Communicate effectively with students, school staff, and transportation personnel
Report maintenance issues or safety hazards to appropriate personnel
Complete required paperwork and incident reports as needed
Emergency Response:
Assist in emergency evacuations and follow established emergency procedures
Provide first aid when necessary and are trained to do so
Help coordinate with emergency responders when situations arise
QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE:
Ability to pass a background check
Physical ability to assist students and handle emergency situations
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Patience and ability to work with children of all ages and abilities
Previous experience working with children preferred
CPR and First Aid certification may be required (Any necessary training would be provided by the district)
EDUCATION and TRAINING:
High school diploma or equivalent
EVALUATION: Bus attendant will be evaluated by the Director of Operations/Transportation Director in collaboration with the Building Principals
