Position Information
Cobar High School is a small comprehensive secondary school located in remote NSW, 700km northwest of Sydney on the traditional lands of the Wongaibon people of the Ngiyampaa nation, with the nearest regional centre of Dubbo 300km east. Cobar is a mining town with an approximate population of 4000 people. Students predominantly expect to gain highly paid occupations within the mining sector which does create unique challenges for the school, particularly in terms of engaging students in the notion of tertiary education.
The school has a student population of 220 students, of whom 26.8% identify as Aboriginal. Our support unit currently consists of three multi-categorical classes to cater for our students with additional needs.

Specific Selection Criteria: Applicants must satisfy the teacher training and academic qualification requirements for this position. In addition to the general selection criteria, Demonstrated capacity to lead, manage and implement whole school strategic directions, policies and initiatives as part of the school executive team. Proven ability to lead and manage a team with diverse teaching experience, demonstrating capacity to collaboratively engage and inspire teachers to adopt innovative pedagogy and to inspire the potential of all students.
General Selection Criteria
1. 1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
2. 2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
3. 3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
4. 4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
5. 5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
6. 6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department\'s Aboriginal education policy
Conditions: An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
