Team Leader Local Laws - Traffic & Compliance
Permanent Full Time - 38 hours per week
Band 6 Salary Range - $97,245.14 - $105,466.60 plus 12% superannuation pro rata

About this Role
As Team Leader, you will provide operational leadership to Local Laws Officers and School Crossing Supervisors, ensuring services are delivered in a timely, professional, and customer-focused manner. You will oversee compliance and enforcement activities across traffic, local laws, animal management, balancing enforcement with education and community engagement.
You will lead day-to-day operations, provide specialist advice on legislation and policy, support investigations and prosecutions where required, and contribute to continuous improvement through sound systems, procedures, and reporting. This role also plays an important part in staff development, resource planning, budget input, and ensuring Council meets its statutory obligations.
About You
You are an experienced compliance or enforcement professional with strong leadership capability and a commitment to positive community outcomes. You bring sound judgement, a collaborative mindset, and the ability to lead teams through complex and often sensitive matters. You are confident interpreting legislation, providing guidance to staff, and representing Council professionally in dealings with the community, stakeholders, and the court system.
You will also need:
Prior experience working in an enforcement/compliance environment or similar with a demonstrated capacity to undertake investigations, compliance inspections and general enforcement work both reactively and proactively.
* The ability to communicate effectively and confidentially, both verbally and in writing including the timely production of written reports, letters, emails, and prosecution briefs.
* The ability to correctly interpret and enforce relevant legislation and policies.
* The ability to understand Court procedures and give evidence regarding a prosecution for offences in the Magistrates Court and at VCAT or both.
* Demonstrated time management skills, including the ability to plan and organise own workload.
* Demonstrated commitment to the principles and practices of quality customer service including previous experience in effectively dealing with conflict and stressful situations.
* Demonstrated high level interpersonal skills including previous experience in working as part of a team.
