Overview

The College of Law is Australia's largest and most established provider of practical legal training, with a presence in every state and territory. In Queensland, it delivers continuing professional development and applied postgraduate programs that support specialist accreditation across areas including family law, wills and estates, property and business law. The College is a not-for-profit with a clear commercial focus, a national structure, and a reputation built over decades of engagement with the legal profession.

The current Queensland Executive Director is transitioning into a national role, creating the need for a dedicated leader to take full ownership of the state operation. The appointment reflects a deliberate investment in local leadership at a time of genuine strategic significance. A structured handover is planned, with strong national support in place.

The Work

You will lead the Queensland operation end to end, with full accountability for budget, business planning, and performance across PLT, CPD and postgraduate programs. You will lead an established team of permanent academic and administrative staff, supported by a pool of independent contractor practitioners and lecturers. The role carries significant external responsibility. You will be the College's representative in Queensland, engaging regularly with the Chief Justice and heads of court, the Queensland Law Society, the Bar Association, the Legal Practitioners Admissions Board, law school deans, professional associations and law firms across the market. Internally, you will work alongside other state Executive Directors and collaborate with national functions including marketing, finance, academic governance and postgraduate programs.

The role is based in the Brisbane office with an expectation of four to five days on site, with a hybrid arrangement available after settlement. It involves regular evening events and functions, periodic travel to regional Queensland, and occasional interstate travel. The team is experienced, capable and committed; you will inherit strong foundations. The role offers four weeks of annual leave and an additional three days leave during the annual Christmas closure period, salary packaging options, and the stability of an Enterprise Agreement.

About You

You are an experienced leader who has managed a business unit, division or organisation with genuine commercial accountability. You bring credibility with both legal and academic audiences. You may be an admitted lawyer with practice experience, ideally with postgraduate qualifications, but above all you bring a real commitment to legal education and the profession it serves. You know the Queensland legal market well, or you are prepared to invest seriously in building that knowledge. You understand governance, you value strong stakeholder relationships, and you are looking for a role where you can make a meaningful contribution to an organisation with purpose and standing in the profession.

Why This Is a Great Opportunity

You have built your career in and around the legal profession. You understand what strong leadership looks like, and you appreciate what the profession needs from those who serve it. Now there is an opportunity to lead one of them. The College of Law is seeking its next Executive Director, Queensland. This is a leadership role for someone who wants to contribute meaningfully to the future of legal education in this state, leading a high-performing team, building on an established market position, and representing the College across the Queensland legal community.
