JOB SUMMARY:The purpose of this position is to support patient care by providing leadership and direction for the delivery of support services at Windsor Regional Hospital. Support Services includes Housekeeping & Environmental Services, internal and external Patient Transport, Linen, Patient Food Services, Retail Food Services, Environmental Services, Linen, Internal and External Patient Transportation, Patient Entertainment, Switchboard, Telecommunications, Mobile Communications, and Print Shop. The Director will provide strategic leadership regarding corporate and departmental goals, financial management, continuous improvement, staff management, infection control practices and patient safety. The position provides leadership for corporate and inter-departmental functions as well as any external partnerships.The Director’s primary responsibilities are to ensure a continuous focus on patient flow, patient safety and patient satisfaction while concurrently ensuring fiscal responsibility, adherence to IPAC policies and procedures, Health and Safety guidelines, Health Canada guidelines, HACCP Food Safety guidelines, and management of staff with the various Collective Agreements. The Director ensures an innovative approach with all operations to adhere to provincial best practices in all areas.QUALIFICATIONS:Criminal Record Check (Required)Post-secondary education in health related field.Minimum of 5 to 7 years of health sector experience in the management of multi-faceted departments.Capable of setting performance standards; exhibiting mature judgment; and managing a team that meets and exceeds objectives.Proficient with Microsoft Office applications including Outlook, Word, Excel. Act as the corporate liaison for all support services to ensure issues are effectively dealt with in a timely manner.Works collaboratively with all departments across WRH to ensure their needs are met with respect to support services. Ensure a consistent management approach is applied to all areas and work with the team to develop strategies when dealing with human resource shortages.Provides direction and leadership for all RFPs related to Support Services.Provide direction for support services operations and physical space in the New Windsor Essex Acute Care Hospital. Work collaboratively with the Redevelopment team on all aspects of the project to ensure all operational needs are met.Maintains external industry contacts for all departments to keep abreast of new technologies and innovations for current and/or future implementation.As an integral member of the WRH corporate Patient Flow team, ensure sustainable housekeeping and patient portering processes to assist with effective and timely flow of patients.Provide direction regarding any necessary escalation due to issues outside the control of the department.Provide leadership to the support services team working in the Command Center to ensure mutual support of the Command Center Nurses and After Hours Managers.Provide leadership for the management of the Capacity Management system.Contributes to improve outcomes of safety, increased quality and delivery of care to reduce injuries, near misses, complications, infection and mortality rates by:Maintaining and promoting a safe and clean working environment for all employees, students, visitors, patients/clients, family members and physicians and fulfilling the duties of workers under the Occupational Health and Safety Act.Taking all reasonable precautions to protect the health and safety of worker; instructing, informing and supervising workers to protect their health and safety.Being competent, qualified–through knowledge, training and experience–to organize the work and its performance; be familiar with the Act and the regulations that apply to the work being performed in the workplace.Knowing about any actual or potential danger to health and safety in the workplace and advising the employee about any hazard in the work and train that worker in the handling, storage, use, disposal and transport of any equipment, substances, tools and materials.Reporting, investigating and documenting any observed risks or hazards to employees and/or patients and taking immediate corrective action whenever safe and feasible.Acting in accordance with hospital patient safety policies and programs.Correcting any observed risks where actions or behaviours towards clients/other staff are unsafe or unprofessional.Conducting regular safety talks, performing monthly workplace inspections and observations, ensuring staff are properly orientation/trained, completing timely accident investigations, and commending staff on health and safety performance.Enhances quality of care and contributes to the development of a client centered, team-based, learning environment by:Consistently contributing as a member of the program team and practicing the values of Windsor Regional Hospital.Participating as a member of project teams or committees as appropriate.Participating in activities of organizational renewal and development.Sharing expertise and knowledge with other team members and other teams throughout the organization;Demonstrating respectful, courteous, caring attitudes in all interactions; maintaining and fostering confidentiality in all aspects of written and verbal communication.Windsor Regional Hospital is an equal opportunity employer.
